The aim of the project is to enable private impact investment to help tackle the housing crisis in Portugal.  The social housing provider “Divine Lavander” is seeking to create new affordable housing supply through renovating/constructing energy-efficient apartment buildings in the Greater Lisbon area of Barreiro. It is based on a financial model that ensures a secure return for investors while committing to providing long-term affordable rental to a 50% Portuguese and 50% migrant/refugee community of tenants.

The community spirit will be nurtured through partnerships with local organisations and through gardens or rooftop micro-farming facilities which promote environmental as well as social sustainability. The organisation currently rents out properties and is in the process of purchasing a building and establishing an investment fund to scale the project to more buildings in the area.
