Empty offices turn into sustainable youth housing

Nieuwegein, The Netherlands Environment and Resource efficiency, Target groups of housing

This project by Jutphaas Wonen consists of the transformation of a former office building into 25 loft residences with gardens for young people. Home-hunters were involved from the start in the project design and sat around the table with contractors. As a result of the participatory process the residences fulfill the expectations of the new tenants. The project is also highly sustainable: as many materials as possible were re-used in the transformation of the building. Moreover, the residences are extremely energy-efficient. This project has already won an innovation and sustainability prize.
