Sant Boi de Llobregat

Country: Spain

City: Sant Boi de Llobregat

Within the urban area, there are currently military barracks and an electricity substation that occupy 17 hectares. The presence of these structures creates a significant barrier within the city. Public authorities at different levels are working to relocate these facilities. The goal of the project is to transform this area into a new city centre that connects the various urban districts.

District Z will be designed to fulfil the needs of the Z generation, making it the first district in Europe to be developed from scratch to address the unique requirements of this generation. The project follows a mixed-use concept, encompassing dwellings, student residences, technology training centres, and cutting-edge economic activities related to digital technology and Industry 4.0. Moreover, it is expected to be an unprecedented environmental benchmark, being a circular district. The project will focus on the use of renewable energy and fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals.

To attract new residents, especially young people with talent and skills, Sant Boi needs to be an attractive place to live and work. This requires high-quality public spaces that promote city life and meet the needs of its citizens from a cross-sectoral approach. This space should also focus on renewable energy, making it an attractive centre of interest that showcases Sant Boi as an innovative, sustainable, and healthy city.
