EERA – JPSC – Warsaw

TU Delft became a member of the Joint Program Smart Cities of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). The EERA stands as a cornerstone in Europe’s pursuit for sustainable energy solutions. As a non-profit organization, EERA unites over 250 entities across 30 countries, forming the largest collaborative network dedicated to low-carbon energy research on the continent. Since its establishment in 2008, EERA has been crucial in advancing the goals of the European Union’s Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan. EERA’s primary objective is to enhance and streamline the European Union’s energy research capabilities.

EERA’s framework operates through 18 Joint Programmes, each serving as a hub of cutting-edge scientific expertise. These programs cover a spectrum of crucial areas including low-carbon technologies, materials, and systems. Through these collaborative efforts, EERA drives innovation and facilitates the development of sustainable energy solutions for a greener future.

On December 1st, Henk Visscher, Professor Housing Quality and Process Innovation at TU Delft, gave a presentation about the European Affordable Housing Consortium, the SHAPE-EU project and the development of the Blueprints at the EERA JPSC Winter 2023 Event in Warsaw. The project was considered by the participants as of huge importance for the further decarbonization of the existing housing stock.

ENHR – Delft

On the other hand, the annual conference of the European Network of Housing Research will be held 26-30 August 2024 with the theme: “Make housing systems work: Evidence and solutions” in Delft. Housing has reemerged as a critical issue in European politics, highlighted by its prominence in the 2023 Dutch elections. Urgent concerns such as escalating living expenses and affordability issues, particularly affecting young urban residents, have propelled this renewed focus. The upcoming ENHR conference in Delft 2024 seeks to tackle these challenges, including innovative housing initiatives and strategies like energy transition. Moreover, the conference will explore into the evolving socio-economic dynamics impacting young individuals and the potential advocacy roles of housing researchers in driving change.

During the conference, the plenary sessionChallenges for the energy transition and housing affordability in Europe” will be based on the European Affordable Housing Consortium’s outcomes.

This session will center on the integration of sustainable and cost-effective housing solutions, examining how this blend impacts the potential for cooperation among practitioners, policymakers, and different research fields. Sorcha Edwards of Housing Europe and Anu Sarnet of EKYL (Estonia) will present and take part in a panel discussion.
